You weren’t sure what it was about you, that had caught and held the ancient fox spirit’s attention all those months ago, but ever since they had first revealed themself to you, it seemed as though they had done their very best to remain at your side at all times. Something that, in all fairness, you probably should have been expecting anyway. Ignoring the heat in your cheeks at their proximity, you let out a halfhearted grumble, determinedly focusing your attention back onto what you had been doing before they arrived, your movements fumbling slightly, now that you knew you were being watched. Immediately, your heart began to pound again, though this time for an entirely different reason, as you quickly turned your head back away from them to hide your blush. Letting out a flustered huff of embarrassment, your turned your head to tell them off for their actions, only to stiffen as you found your nose almost brushing against their own, the kitsune having apparently decided to lean over you and get a better look at what you were up to. The sudden voice made you jolt in fright as it sounded out from behind you, your heart pounding so loudly in your ears that you were almost certain they could hear it, a suspicion that only grew stronger as you heard their soft amused chuckle. “You’re going to hurt yourself if you keep that up, my dear.” ….Because you were pretty damn sure that you were just saved by a fictional character. Shakily you managed to sit up, your body feeling weak and feeble, though your focus was more on your rapidly spiralling thoughts. Your eyes widened as you took in the dark red hair and deep scars across one eye, managing to nod dumbly as you rasped out a thank you. “Feeling a bit better?” Your saviour asked, drawing your attention upwards. The others around you got the message and backed up as well, giving you space as a blanket was put around you to fight off the fierce chill. Speaking in a low and even tone, your saviour held you steadily with one arm, his calm words and strong heartbeat giving you something to focus on as you unintentionally started copying his breathing. Numerous voices tried to soothe you, but it wasn’t until you were pulled back into your saviours chest again, that you finally managed to focus. Overwhelmed by the experience, the panic began to swallow you whole, your panicked breathing quickly turning into outright hyperventilating. Distantly, you realised you could hear multiple voices shouting in alarm, though you were still gasping and coughing too much to pay attention.ĭozens of hands gripped at you, your saviour releasing you as you were hauled up onto a wooden deck and carefully laid down, your saviour hauled up soon after. Terrified, you struggled helplessly against the unyielding grip, until you found yourself suddenly able to breathe again.ĭesperately you took in air, coughing and gasping as your saviour kept your head above the water, one arm still firm and unmoving around you. You were beginning to loose yourself completely to your panic as your clothes continued to weigh you down, each forceful cough leaving you unwillingly inhaling more salt water, the frantic cycle continuing, until you were rather abruptly pinned against a broad chest. The shock of the sudden icy temperature made you inhale before your brain could catch up with you, salt water invading your lungs and leaving you choking and coughing as you struggled to swim to the surface. Your body plummeted rapidly, wind whipping at your skin harshly until you were abruptly swallowed up by cold dark water. Reluctantly grasping onto your last sliver of energy, you hauled yourself up and took a step towards the kitchen, only to fall into nothingness with a startled screech. Honestly, the more you thought about it, the more appealing the idea became. Closing your eyes, you sighed, your stomach growling but body too tired to move so that you could actually get something.Īll you wanted to do right now was lounge around in some comfortable clothes and maybe read some of your favourite manga while you finally ate something substantial. Why you had let yourself be talked into going to that damn party, you didn’t know, but three hours stuck around those prissy judgemental fucks, and you were thoroughly Done.Įxhausted from being on your feet for so long, you flopped rather gracelessly onto your bed, not bothering to take off your shoes or fancy outfit just yet. Walking into your apartment, you groaned, pleased to be away from all the obnoxious chatter and posturing.
